We started our first full day with a hearty breakfast at our hotel, complete with . . .

It was not terrible, but not something I would choose to eat regularly. We were later told that the proper way to eat it is with melted butter on toast, which we tried this morning. It is better that way, but it still will not make our regular breakfast rotation.

After breakfast, we headed out for a walking tour, which was really great. We learned a lot about Brisbane’s history and had a good introduction to the central area of town. We also saw our first . . .

Brisbane is a lovely city, comparable in size to Indianapolis, but with a much nicer river. It has a ton of public art and street art, including adorable blue animals placed around town by an anonymous artist known as Blue Art Ninja. (Look carefully at the first picture below.)

After our tour, we hopped on a ferry that took us to the lovely campus of Queensland University. I will let Rich tell you about why we went there.

We ended our day at a lovely Greek restaurant by the river and then, since we were still a bit jet-lagged, we were asleep by about 8:00.
