On Saturday we drove up the coast from Airlie Beach to Port Douglas. Rich did a masterful job of remembering to drive on the left, with a little help from me and Beyonce. The drive took about 8.5 hours and took us through a lot of sugar cane fields and banana farms and past one giant mango.

Sunday morning we went to the farmers market that’s a few blocks away and had brekkie rolls with a beautiful view.

Then we did some laundry and enjoyed the beautiful garden courtyard at our lodging, the lovely Port Douglas Apartments.

We then headed out for our wildlife adventure cruise on the Daintree River. We did not see much wildlife, but we did see a couple of crocodiles and some interesting birds, and the river itself was lovely. Rich rocked his new Aussie hat!

After dinner, we stopped by a bar that was having Music Bingo night, which took us back to Hannah’s brief stint as a Singo host! We did not win either round, but it was still fun. We also got a kick out of this vending machine.

Today we took an all-day snorkeling tour. We walked to the marina and boarded a very nice power catamaran. The weather was less than ideal and the two hour ride out to the outer reef was quite bumpy, but the reef was spectacular. Gorgeous coral and fish and some really cool giant clams. That said, the water was very choppy and the current was really strong, which made the experience a little harrowing for me, so I sat out the second snorkel. Rich said it wasn’t as good as the first one, but they did see three reef sharks (they are not dangerous) and a sea turtle (which I’ve seen many times in the Bahamas, so I wasn’t too sad to miss it).

On the way to dinner tonight, Rich saw a very large bat fly by and got an awesome video of it hanging in a tree. We are pretty sure it is an endangered Spectacled Flying Fox. I will post the video here when I figure out how.

Tomorrow we head to the Daintree Rainforest!
